- Are you putting in it information which can help describe
what your page is about? Or, are you just putting a generic term
on it, like 'Home'. Say your company is called 'Acme Pizza
Company', and, go figure, you make pizzas. Putting 'Home' on
your page title doesn't do much for your users to see what the
page is about, but, if you said "Home - Acme Pizza Company',
that would be a much better job of showing your users what your
web page is about.
- Your page's filename
- Using our example company from above, the 'Acme Pizza
Company', if your home page is a file named 'default.htm', that
doesn't tell the search engines very much about what the page is
about. Instead, if the file were named
'default-acme-pizza-company.htm', this could help your search
engine ranking as it has the company name in the filename as
well.
- Page Content
- Are each of your web pages about a single topic, and not
spread out covering a number of topics? Search engines like to
pick the best fit for a searcher's topic request. You may have
the best page on a topic, but, if it is jumbled in with a number
of other topics, it's overall strength to search engines could
be diluted.
